During a trip to Indo we journeyed into a remote beach on the far side of an island with no roads — a large island in the Mentawai archipelago. The group we were with wanted to explore something more alternative. Even if the surf wasn't amazing they wanted to be alone, to feel what real exploring feels like. So our captain took us to this serene corner of a very long beach where the wind was perfectly offshore. We even had to hide from the roaming surf charter boats — this beach is a secret.

In between surfs Emilie and I went out for a little playing on the waves and our friend immortalised the moment with this beautiful drone shot.

Even if the waves weren't world class, the beach carried a sense of intimacy and privacy that really enhanced our will to play — to be silly, to try new things.

This is one of the most beautiful sides of the surfing life. Humbled by nature, structures fade and we get to be children again.
